Let’s turn up the fun factor. Unvaulted compiles 8 tracks that were recorded and (mostly) finished but not deemed applicable to the four most recent Whisler releases into a pleasing little bit of ear candy. From the ready-for-radio accessibility of Shot Down to the tongue-in-cheek spoofing of the name Jennifer in Where’s Jennifer, Unvaulted offers an insight into more of the 4 minute hit single side of Todd’s writing. The bass wizardry of Barry Sparks is on full display in Cartoon and Doug Floyd provides his usual lead guitar fireworks in Splinters. It’s a 35 minute tip of the hat to American Top 40. Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.

Hear this song
I bring to you
Buried in my heart
Wrapped in chordless melodies
Spirals in the dark
Once I thought
I loved someone
The only love I knew
They did not
Accept my heart
And it broke in two
It’s not a tragedy
This place in which I find myself
To pause and to reflect

Thinking she wants to see me
With an image in mind
Of how she’d like to please me
Reality so fine
Driving on the freeway
In my parents’ car
A fantasy in the waiting
And it’s not that far
I hope she’s gonna love me
And not shoot me down
I’ve been shot down
No I don’t like it
I’ve been shot down
And I don’t like it
I ring her doorbell
There’s no one at home
But the door is open
And I’m on my own
The silence is deadly
I look as quick as I can
She doesn’t even see me
She’s making love to my best friend
I wanted her to love me
And not shoot me down
I’ve been shot down
No I don’t like it
I’ve been shot down
And I don’t like it
Why couldn’t she have loved me?
Why’d she shoot me down?
I’ve been shot down (shot, shot down)
No I don’t like it
I’ve been shot down (shot, shot down)
And I don’t like it
I’ve been shot down

So, my fair-breasted
Well-rested beauty
There is joy in the wine
And in the company
Of one you trust
And the champagne flows like rain
Again into your cup
Heartily, drink up!
There is merriment here and good cheer
A smile to grace
Your face and challenge
The bravest sort of fool
Who makes amends and meets his end
As he thinks of you
Did you nuzzle
Did you hug
Did you kiss
Did you rub
Did you hold
Did you feel
Did your very
Senses reel
So, my young flower
The hours melt by
Until sleep is heavy
In your eyes
Or did the buzzing
Of that lone bee momentarily
Lead you astray
Have some more champagne
Counting the stars you see
In your head
Or did the bird utter a chirp
To send you on your way
Not that the event
Might make some news
We’ve little enough of that, of late
Did you cuddle
Did you think
Did you grope
Did you sink
Did you fling
Did you cry
Did the silence
Break the sigh
Did you nuzzle
Did you hug
Did you kiss
Did you rub
Did you hold
Did you feel
Did your very
Senses reel?
Where’s Jennifer

I’m going back to the party tonight
To look for Jennifer
And not give up so fast
When every girl I seem to meet
In a bar or on the street
Is never the girl for me
I’m going back to the club tonight
To search for Jennifer
No matter how many times
I’m not the one she’s got in mind
When her boyfriend arrives
Imagine my surprise
The bouncer said
“Bro, you have no chance
Every other girl
Is named Jennifer
You can search the world
Thinking ‘This is her’
And a thousand more
Will walk through the door”
Not Cindy, not Susie
Not Tracy, not Terry
Not Christine, Robin or Monica
Krystal, Sarah or Veronica
A name is just a name
What’s driving me insane
Where is Jennifer
I’m going back to the rave tonight
And when I find Jennifer
I’m asking her to dance
And then she’ll smile and say
She’s been waiting all day
For me to come her way
The DJ said
“Dude, you had no chance
There’s a million girls
All named Jennifer
To keep it straight
They abbreviate
But you found the one
Who will give you some”
Not Cindy, not Susie
Not Tracy or Terry
Not Christine, Robin or Monica
Krystal, Sarah or Veronica
A name is just a name
What’s driving me insane
Where is Jennifer
Jennifer…Jennifer…Jennifer…Jennifer
Goodnight Chelsea
(Words and music by Todd Whisler)

Goodnight sweet Chelsea
May all your dreams come true
Goodnight sweet Chelsea
If I could give them to you
You know I would
Something in your eyes
Something in your smile
That makes me feel
Alive and renewed
In your voice, a sound
Angels all around
In symphonic grandeur
To guide and nurture me
Goodnight sweet Chelsea
My only gift is song
Goodnight sweet Chelsea
Here’s where you belong
Up amongst the clouds
Shining brightly down
Your heavenly presence
Has cast a spell on me
When at last you see
This was meant to be
All that you are
Is all a girl should be
Yes, everything you are
Is wonderful to me
Goodnight sweet Chelsea
Wherever you are tonight
Goodnight sweet Chelsea
Everything’s alright
So say goodnight

Lady, my sweet lady
Don’t forsake my love
I will pay any price
Below and above
In the heat of the pleasure
One thing is sure
No one will know
Who is pleasing who
Angel with the dark eyes
Satan in your dress
Let me pry the keyhole
To your treasure chest
Deft in your skill
To drive me insane
How will I manage to
Make you come again?
Beneath the moon
The summer swoon
A cheap cartoon
A sunny afternoon
Lady, my sweet lady
I’m at a loss for words
I can’t comprehend
The magic I have heard
In the heat of the pleasure
One thing is sure
No one will know
Who is pleasing who
Beneath the moon
The summer swoon
A cheap cartoon
A sunny afternoon

It is very shallow
To wander slowly
While thoughts of stranger
Emotions descend
So time confusing
My fingers on metal
Once the day
Has been put to bed
Like clockwork
I punch out of life
But the motion
Brings no life
To these splinters
It is coming, it is near
Hide me, ‘till finally
It is here
Take my mind it
Is on a candlelight display
Do you need me
Do you hear me
Should I care either way?
Only fragments
From the razor
In her smile
Ever brought life
To these splinters
And hand over blouse
After wrist upon her skirt
And perfume under her necklace
A ring of words
I can feel them; I demand it
When you wake me for God’s sake
Let it be over
Bringing final rest
To these splinters

If there is justice
Then at least once in our lives
We know a passion
That fills our days and nights
With beauty and truth
In their purest form
This we are promised
From the day that we are born
I knew this once
I knew
Love at first sight
I knew
It was the summer
Of 1990
When I first saw her
At the copying machine
Gorgeous, alluring
Like no one I’d ever seen
And I became lost
In what would never be
I knew this once
I knew
Love at first sight
I knew
Do you see yourself
In this cruel portrayal?
You’ll deny it
Is anyone deserving
Of such treatment
Who can survive it?
When the game begins
Although it ends the same
You must try it
Thirty years have passed
And now you need
To reconcile it
I knew this once
I knew
Love at first sight
I knew
It’s you, my love
It’s you
It’s true, my love
It’s you
